The start of Safari Cable Company:
Bashir Isse Mahamud came back from The Netherlands to Somalia in 2009. Mr. Adaan Sheikhdoon Ali, CEO of United Cable Company (U.C.C.) in Somalia, asked Bashir Isse Mahamud to collect more info how to connect Somalia with the rest of the world. Mr. Adaan Sheikhdoon Ali knew that all investor eyes are focused on Somalia. The availability of cost effective, high-speed telecommunications services are the most critical catalyst for the macro socio economic development of Somalia and will lead to peace and prosperity!
Bashir went to Nairobi in Kenya, where he had a meeting with Mr. John Sihra, Chairman of WIOCC. Fourteen telecom companies in Africa jointly set up WIOCC and a board with representatives from each shareholder company govern this big organisation. WIOCC has a wide experience when it comes to telecom connections and this meeting in Nairobi was the first step to the development of Safari Cable Company and to the initiation of the NEAR Cable project. In September 2014, Safari Cable Company and U.C.C. already signed a Joint Venture Agreement to work together as partners in the NEAR Cable Project.
The Federal Government of Somalia firmly recognizes the Importance of telecommunications and Internet Technology and Services and in June 2015, they approved the application to conduct Telecommunication Facilities-Based Services including but not limited to Regional Network Operation, National Network Operator (Fixes or Mobile: Voice and Data) and International Gateway. With this approval, Safari Cable Company is authorized to conduct and carry on Telecommunication business in Somalia.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry also realized that Safari Cable Company will create employment opportunities for many Somali people and has a share in the economic development of the country.
